There were many qualified attendees at the conference “Architecture of transparency: designing with glass” organized in Borgo Lanciano by Novavetro, of the Lucentini family, leader in Italy for the production, processing, transformation and trade of flat glass.
During this important meeting, concrete experiences, patents and new solutions were presented by experts and entrepreneurs to an audience of over 300 illustrious guests.
Among the various speakers who followed one another on stage, the speech by Enzo Muccioli, technical director of Soglianese Costruzioni, partner of Novavetro since 1986, stands out. “I have been working in this sector since 1980” – declared Muccioli, who then continued by saying – “Soglianese Costruzioni, has always been very attentiveinnovative projects, even the most daring ones, we like to take on challenges and support them, inventing and creating technological solutions with this unique and eternal material, which is glass.
Thanks to continuous research and technological evolution, today glass has achieved surprising structural and aesthetic characteristics, mechanical, thermal and acoustic resistance such as to allow us to design, create and installprojects that were unthinkable until a few decades ago.
Facades with large monolithic slabs, with vertical or inclined chambers, up to over 10 metres, supported or suspended, held only at the ends and free vertically.
The first merit of these results must certainly be recognized to the designers and operators in the sector, who are increasingly enterprising, courageous and daring.
For the realization of these works, in-depthknowledge of the physical characteristics of the materials, their behavior on site, the production cycles of the components and accessories is necessary, without forgetting the function of the project and the required performance.
Only thanks to continuous research, information and collaboration with the best professionals in the various specific sectors of the sector, are we able to face any type of challenge with the awareness of “knowing and knowing how to do it”. These are the keys to the success of every project.
Soglianeseis certainly one of the main interpreters of the concept of“Transparency technologyand full satisfaction with the results.
For exampleFlatiron, a project in the Down Town ofMiami’s Brickell, which is made up of various projects in an interior environment, such as the vertical glass blade elements over 8 meters high, hanging from the upper floor, with a very high degree of flexibility. The fixing of the glass blades to the slab involves anchoring and support construction concepts that allow bending to be absorbed through the directional system and attachment to the lower floor.
A great effect of interior architecture and furnishing thanks to the special glass processing, its lamination and the LED lights, both on sides and upper, the glass blades were created thanks to Novavetro’s construction techniques, laminated with transparent PVB, and treated with glossy or satin finishes.
This result left everyone completely satisfied.
Another great challenge won was thenew façade of the Rome International Airport, Terminal 3, designed byStudio Belliniof Milan and the use ofa TEKA façade with monolithic slabsoffering a very beautiful result with particular brightness. This project required a particular technological and anchoring system, supported by the lower beam and hooked to the upper beam, which was capable of supporting the historic shelter designed by engineer Morandi.
The general contract was fromAeroporti di Roma ADRentrusted toCMBof Carpi who asked us to carry out this grandiose project.
The contract was signed at the end of April 2016, and by the beginning of December we had already completed 2,500sqm of facade and all 5 entrance gates, working in specific areas and without ever closing the terminal.
The completion of the works was brought forward by 3 months compared to the program set by ADR.
I can say that the choice of the TEKA façade with our polyamide point anchoring system, which allowed the huge windows to be stabilized without blocking their sliding aspect, was a pioneering and innovative intuition.
Glass is a great material, irreplaceable, and increasingly used on both modern and traditional architectural projects.”
Enzo Muccioli,
technical director of Soglianese Costruzioni.
The conference, thanks to the importance of the speakers and the topics covered, was recognized by the provincial Order of Architects, Landscape Planners and Conservators, as a training event.
The two days then ended with a visit to the Novavetro factory: the “Glass Technology Division”. A new generation factory where the automation of processes is supported by the knowledge of the workers which allows the company to deal with increasingly complex production requests.
